Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my most recent experience at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may look welcoming at first glance , what I experienced behind its threshold was disturbing and far below any standard .
The State of Affairs: Filthy and Disregarded
From the moment I entered , it was immediately obvious that upkeep was not a priority at this bar . The surfaces were tacky , and a overpowering stench of old alcohol and uncleaned toilets permeated the entire bar . Smelling a mixture of ammonia , putrefaction and sour vomit . The serving zone , which should be the primary feature of any pub, was overflowing with soiled cups and refuse that looked like it had been ignored for a long time . The lavatory was in even worse condition — clogged , with a broken handle and walls covered in what I can only assume was human excrement .

Many visitors have reported seeing bugs darting across the drink station and proof of vermin in the adjoining rooms. For a business that provides refreshments , these issues are absolutely intolerable and raise serious concerns about the sanitation of their offerings.
